Last week I wasted an entire afternoon because of an errant bug in my Excel that prohibited me from being able to use Excel’s Paste Special dialog. When I’d select Paste Special, I’d get this useless menu:
After reinstalling Microsoft Office, I was dismayed to find out the bug was still there.
Turns out the cause was Skype’s Click to Call browser extension. And it was also the cause of Word’s Paste Options dialog also not appearing after pasting. Skype is aware of the issue and said back in March a fix would be imminent.
When I tried uninstalling it via the Windows Control Panel, it just crashed. After the third time trying, I just went into each of my browsers and deleted the extension. If you’re using multiple instances of Chrome you’ll need to go into each one and uninstall it.
The real irony of the whole situation is Microsoft owns Skype.
